Wholesome Cat Dad Walks Into Animal Shelter to Adopt a Kitten, Becomes Smitten With Senior Cat, Takes Him Home So He Won't Have to Spend Christmas Alone

It's a Christmas meowricle, feline fam. The cat distribution system strikes again with another wholesome adoption story, although this one is a bit different than our normal heartwarming tails. The CDS doesn't just work on cross-country trips, at work, or meowing outside your window - it works everywhere and is always planning. It purrfectly planned for this wholesome cat dad to go to an animal shelter to adopt a playmate for his young cat, knowing full well that he would walk out with something he didn't expect.

He went in looking for a kitten, but upon receiving several head bonks from an awwdorable senior cat, he decided to take them home instead. See? The cat distribution system works in mysterious ways. Turns out that the senior cat's owners passed over the rainbow bridge a month ago, and this new cat dad couldn't stand the thought of leaving him in there over Christmas. But when I went to spend some time with the other cats, this guy came right up to me and gave me head butts. He's 10 years old and his owner passed away last month. I got sad thinking of him in the shelter at Christmas. I hope he and Bean get along.

    We're absolutely sure they will get along swimmingly. The headbutts are always a surefire way to make someone fall in love with you. We did it with our fiance four years ago, and we're getting married next year! Moral of the story is: headbutt someone when you want to show your affection (gently and lovingly, of course).

    We love this. Yes, kittens absolutely deserve to get adopted, but so do sweet seniors! Imagine living your last days in a shelter….we can't even stomach the thought. Congratulations on your new cat, and we hope you have a very meowy Christmas!

    SkyScamall 11h ago • Thank you. My old man is sprawled out across my lap at the moment. He took a few months to warm up to us. He was friendly but not a lap cat until recently. Sorry if you've already done this but introducing two adult cats is different to introducing a kitten to an adult cat. Please make sure to read up on it. You might have to go a bit slower.

    I went to the shelter a few years ago and got this old one eyed man and he was the best cat I've ever had. He was very sweet and just wanted lovings. He passed away 2 years ago and not a day goes by that I don't miss him.

    His original family took him to shelter cause he didn't get along great with their new kitten. He was 9 at the time and the longest resident at the shelter. I went there just to get information about vaccines for my dog and other cat and when I saw him, I knew he had to come home with me. He got along just fine with the other cat and dog. Toby, I miss you old man and can't wait to see you again someday.

You saved them from a scary place that they have no idea why they were taken there, but you saved them. It may take a while for them to decompress. They may panic and forget where the litter box is. Give them time. Let them know you love them and they will return the love unconditionally.
